Best Practice

Post-COVID-19, the best practice implemented by Pyko is to sustain mountain jobs by paying guides better based on the number of customers. The focus is on supporting the local economy by exclusively partnering with guaranteed eco-tourism accommodations that source locally. To promote a sustainable mountain environment, no motorized activities are offered. Customers are encouraged to use public transport, especially trains, for their travel.

Organization

Pyko

Pyko is a travel agency in the Pyrenees and aims to make the mountains accessible. It offers guided stays with professional remuneration based on the number of customers and allows guides to bring their own clients using the agency’s tourism license. Self-guided stays provide customers with itineraries tailored to their booked accommodations. Additionally, Pyko plans to develop site mapping to enable customers to create their own itineraries for free. All bookings are made in guaranteed eco-tourism accommodations, such as “Green Key,” ensuring environmentally friendly stays.

Impact

The hope is that jobs in the high mountains can extend year-round and develop further if guides receive better remuneration. By democratizing access to the mountains and attracting a wider public, tourist activity is expected to grow accordingly.

Sustainability

All activities offered in Pyko’s stays are non-motorized, ensuring zero-carbon impact. Efforts are made to reduce transport in route selections. When transport is necessary, public transport and carpooling are preferred.
