Two of the main themes of the BayTM are sustainable as well as digital destination development.

Regarding sustainable destination development, BayTM has developed a matrix as a working tool for other tourism professionals, which contains a wealth of information on the topic of sustainability and combines theory with practice. Further, workshops, knowledge transfer and network building are being offered to accompany the way to becoming a sustainable destination.

Concerning digital destination development, BayTM has set its tasks in: Implementing a Bavaria-wide strategy through the provision of a digital infrastructure for open data with the BayernCloud Tourism (this technology brings all tourism-relevant data for tourism offers and services together and makes them available to all actors).

 

Organization

Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH

The Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH (BayTM) is the official state tourism organization of the Free State of Bavaria and is institutionally supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism. The task of BayTM is the tourism management of the entire Free State through supporting and promoting the Bavarian tourism and leisure industry as well as destinations and service providers. It order to accomplish these goals, the organization creates networks, provides impulses, develops platforms, sets topics and supports partners with know-how and innovative tools.

Impact

As the regional tourism organization, BayTM employs a Training of Trainers approach. They support the regional Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) by providing insights, training sessions, and other resources, thereby transforming them into multipliers for a comprehensive digital and sustainable transition approach. These DMOs, in turn, are expected to guide and support their members and stakeholders along this path. To date, BayTM has conducted approximately 40 workshops, as well as awareness-raising presentations, networking events, and more, across 36 regions.

Sustainability

This initiative goes beyond merely conceptualizing sustainability; but is sustainable itself. Its actions have the clear focus of forward-thinking and are aimed at preparing and supporting the Bavarian tourism sector for the transition ahead. By integrating digitalization and sustainability initiatives, BayTM isn’t just tackling present challenges; it’s also fostering resilience and adaptability for the sector’s long-term viability.
